Katy Moncivais, Ph.D.
Medical EditorKaty Moncivais, Ph.D., is the medical editor at Mesothelioma.com. She has been a dedicated scientific communicator for more than 15 years. She uses her education and experience to ensure our pages provide empathetic, accurate information.
Moncivais completed her doctoral degree at The University of Texas at Austin. She then spent years working in medical communications, first at a stem cell-based startup and then at a Fortune 500 medical device company.
During this time, she learned how serious the consequences of poor healthcare communications can be for patients. She brings this history into her work, keeping these factors in mind as she sets and enforces standards for accuracy and readability.
Moncivais often reminds her research and writing teams to keep the person on the other side of the screen in mind. According to her, “Our pages talk to people at one of the most difficult, stressful times in their lives. As leaders in the space, we have a responsibility to provide them with the most accurate information we can. As humans, we have a responsibility to meet them where they are with as much kindness as we can get across on a web page.”
Moncivais works with our medical and legal experts to meet those responsibilities. She reviews medical content to ensure accuracy and help provide our readers with peace of mind. As a result, she has read and analyzed more than 500 mesothelioma journal articles and studies.
She encourages all site visitors to reach out to her personally if they find any errors or cannot find the information they need.
