History of Penn Presbyterian Medical Center

Penn Presbyterian Medical Center was founded in 1871 as “Presbyterian Hospital of Philadelphia.” It later became known as “Presbyterian Medical Center.” In 1995, it joined the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) and got its current name, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. In the 2000s, it opened the Abramson Cancer Center, which has a top mesothelioma treatment program.

Penn Presbyterian Medical Center is centrally located within Penn Medicine University City. This allows the center to offer patients seamless, integrated outpatient care with a wide range of specialties in one place. It also helps patients make appointments with the center’s top doctors and their care teams to collaborate more effectively.

The cancer center includes the Harron Lung Center, which houses the Pleural Disease Program. This program treats malignant mesothelioma and pleural tumors, among other pleural conditions.

The Pleural Disease Program’s mission is to provide “comprehensive and compassionate care at the highest level possible.” The program aims to improve patients’ quality of life and treatment outcomes.
